I’ve been so excited to share this session! When Dustin+Jessica chose to take a canoe out on the lake for their engagement session we couldn’t resist! Dustin+Jessica are two of the sweetest people we’ve ever met. They are genuinely kind, and made me want to spend more time with them. They really are a perfect match, so delightful and comfortable together. They met in grad school on their way to becoming physical therapists, and let me just say, if I ever need physical therapy I’m calling them!! Beto+I had the best time spending the afternoon with these two.

SHOOTING FILM

I love history, especially when it comes to my family. I’m pretty sentimental actually. In a box under my bed I keep a set of pillow cases that my great grandma hand crocheted. Her antique drum table fits beautifully in my living room, and I think she would be proud to know that I enjoy cooking her recipes and canning jams in the summertime. I feel that it’s these nostalgic things that keep us connected to those we love and remind us where we came from. Nearly every time I take a trip home, my family and I go through old photos. I’m sure there are some members in our family that could care less if we ever pulled out the old slide projector again… but me, I’m sentimental, I love it! I love to remember. Film is the way I remember my childhood. It’s the way I get a glimpse at life before I was born. It’s nostalgia at it’s best.

When I was 12 or 13 I remember sitting at the dinner table with my Dad and his 35mm camera. He spent about an hour or so teaching me how to use it – in manual of course. I was so intrigued. From the moment I picked up that camera I couldn’t put it down. I developed more film in high school than most people I knew. I shot for our high school newspaper and any other reason I could think of. I spent a week learning the dark room at Michigan State University and dreamed of having my own one day. I love looking back at those photos.

Nearly five years ago I retired my film camera with the excitement of a new digital purchase. It was a whole new world! Instant gratification, thousands of photos, and hours of work to be done on said photos. After starting my photography business I never looked back at film… until now. This year Beto and I decided we wanted to go back to our analog roots. For him that meant a new record player and loads of vinyl, and for me film! On one of my parents trips down to Texas I asked my Dad to bring along a couple of his cameras for us to play with. That 1980′s 35mm camera felt like an old friend in my hands. Photography was exciting again. The process was enjoyable – plan, shoot, wait, enjoy. Receiving our first sets of prints back from the lab was comparable to Christmas morning. We were so excited, especially Beto. These were his first rolls of 35mm and 120 film. There is definitely something freeing about shooting film. You commit to a moment, a frame, a hope. When that film comes back properly exposed, it’s a deep sigh of relief. Boxes, frames, albums of real photos rather than archives of unedited files. I’m pretty sentimental, so for our personal memories, I love knowing they’ll be there to look back on.

AARON + COURTNEY | TEXAS VINEYARD DAY AFTER SESSION

Aaron+Courtney are one of our favorite couples of all time. We have loved photographing this past year of their lives, and we’re so glad they wanted to do a day after session as well. We all drove up to Aaron’s family’s ranch and spent the afternoon together. The property is gorgeous and so are Courtney+Aaron! Courtney knew I would LOVE the barn and vineyard… and she was RIGHT! After our fun afternoon of shooting Aaron+Courtney made us a delicious dinner before our drive back to Dallas. We couldn’t be happier to have gotten to knew these two and call them friends! :)

If you know me, you know I have a thing for farms/barns. This one was perfect!

JONATHAN + LESLIE | WHITE ROCK LAKE WEDDING

Leslie+Jonathan, ahhh these two! They are so perfect and comfortable together. Their warm welcoming personalities and their love for one another, I feel like I’ve known them or a long while. They were on a romantic trip to Italy when Jonathan popped the question to Leslie. From that moment their life has been a whirlwind of welcomed changes. Shortly after their engagement Jonathan found out he would be heading off to Officer Training at the end of October. What they thought would be a large wedding celebration in May became an intimate evening with the closest friends and family. Leslie called me just three weeks before the big day to ask if Beto and I were available. We were so glad we were! I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else. Their wedding was perfect… and they have some amazing friends that made it extra special! Congrats you two!

I am so excited for our 2012 weddings, especially after hanging out with Alex+Brittany! These two are such a sweet couple. They are so comfortable together. The way they look into each others eyes and can’t stop smiling… it’s contagious! Beto+I had so much fun and cannot wait until their April wedding.

Beto and I recently met up with Scott+Kelli in Fort Worth for their engagement session. They wanted something rustic and a good mix of their styles. We had so much fun spending the afternoon with these two! We know their March Stockyards wedding is going to be more of the same! :)

I am so thankful to have met Justin+Liz. They are kind-hearted, passionate people that truly put their heart and soul into all they do. I love how they planned, designed, and built their wedding together. Their DIY-inspired day was perfectly them – laid-back and full of joy and laughter. What’s not to love about a rustic family ranch, pecan trees, mason jars filled with craft beer and sweet tea, and a yard full of your closest friends and family? It was a joy to photograph. Ilse+JC were married a couple weeks back at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Dallas. They are such a sweet and fun-loving couple, and we were so excited to spend the day with them. Their super fun reception took place at 129 Leslie in the design district.
